Emery Buck Jackson, 85, Rochester

Emery “Buck” Jackson, age 85, of Rochester, died Nov. 29, 2003, of natural causes at Lake Winona Manor Nursing Home, Winona. His illness lasted three years.

Emery Jackson was born May 15,. 1918, in Albert Lea . He married Thelma Marie Hauser on Jan. 26, 1940, in Albert Lea.

Thelma, his wife, no longer survives.

Surviving children include: Thomas L. Jackson of Inver Grove Heights, Minn., Suzanne M. (Gary) Hedstrom of Brooklyn Park, and Barbara Solheim of Rochester. He was also survived by five grandchildren and nine great- grandchildren. Three brothers and a sister survive as well: Robert E. Jackson of Kent, Wash., Tom Jackson of Columbus, Ind., Marjorie Boelman of Austin, and Leo &uot;Dode&uot; Jackson of Albert Lea.

Emery was preceded in death by his wife, three brothers and three sisters.

Emery Jackson’s accomplishments: 1944-1946, United States Navy, Seaman First Class stationed in Okinawa, Japan; 1957, began his union service career in Albert Lea; 1961-1967, continued as a business representative in Minneapolis; 1964, Tomstmasters; 1967-1985, business manager and financial secretary for Local 21, Rochester; 1993-1992, Private Industry Council; 1984,

Honorary Lifetime Member of MSEA (Minesota School of Employees Association); 1985-1999, advisor to the business manager and financial secretary for Local 21; 1996, Olmsted Community Action Program; 1986-1988, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post Commander Post 1215, American Legion Post 92; 1967, Running Club; Board of directors for Senior Services; Secretary-treasurer of the Minnesota Culinary Council; Named to the Mayor’s (Chuck Hazama) Citizens Advisory Committee; and in service to the Private Sector Initiative Program.

He enjoyed traveling, ballroom dancing and golfing, semi-pro baseball and professional boxing, and was an avid bicyclist as well as a runner from 1966-2000, running his last marathon at age 76. Mr. Jackson was a church member of St. Francis Church, Rochester.

Memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 5, at St. Francis Church, Rochester; The Rev. Timothy T. Reker officiating. Friends may call one hour prior to service at church. Arrangments are by Johnson Funeral Home Services, Rochester.
