Theodore Raymond Munson, 88, Albert Lea

Funeral services for Theodore R. “Ted” Munson, age 88, of Albert Lea, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 3, at First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. The Rev. John Holt will officiate. Interment will be in Lakewood Cemetery. Visitation is 4:30-7 p.m. today at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the services at the church.
Ted died Sunday, Nov. 30, 2003, at the Albert Lea Medical Center.
Theodore Raymond Munson was born Dec. 6, 1914, to Martin Theodore and Rosa Munson in West Bend, Iowa. He graduated from West Bend High School and attended Hamilton Business College in Mason City. On June 26, 1937, Ted was united in marriage to Louella Dahl in Albert Lea. The couple had lived in Hollandale for 37 years and then Albert Lea for the last 32 years. Ted was involved in the shipping and handling of vegetables and produce as the owner and president of Paul D. Jones Inc. He was a member of First Lutheran Church, on the Board of the United Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Growers Assn., a member of the Elks and the Osman Shrine. Ted had also served as president of the National Onion Assn., the Naeve Hospital Board, the Y’s Men’s Organization, the Kiwanis, Toastmasters, the District 241 School Board, and had been mayor of Hollandale. Ted was one of the founders of Lea College. He was a very civic minded person and active in many organizations and had provided scholarships to high school students many years as the Paul D. Jones Scholarship. Ted enjoyed people and public speaking at various events. He loved golf, swimming, racquetball, and walking.
Survivors include his wife, Louella of Albert Lea; son, Steve and his wife Joyce of Albert Lea; granddaughters: Kim Schultz of Stewartville, and Erin Munson and special friend Richard Johnson of Mankato; great-grandchildren: Lindsey Munson, and Paige and Brock Schultz; brother, Robert and his wife Helen Munson of Bradgate, Iowa; sister, Olive Day of West Bend, Iowa; brother-in-law, Norval Dahl of Dallas, Texas; sisters-in-law: Bev Nelson and Madeline Dahl, both of Albert Lea; and many nieces and nephews.
Ted was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: John, Howard, Cliff, and Clarence; sister, Charlene; grandson-in-law, Ron Schultz; and brothers-in-law: Claire ‘Bud’ Nelson, Ralph Dahl, and Harold and his wife Ardith Dahl.
