Alice M. Lee, 88, Albert Lea

The memorial service for Alice M. Lee will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 23, at First Presbyterian Church, Albert Lea. The Rev. Dwight Netzer will officiate. Burial will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the church. Bonnerup Funeral Service is in charge of the arrangements.

Alice died on Monday, Jan. 19, 2004, at Brian’s Elder Care, Albert Lea. She was 88 years old.

Alice was born in Elgin, Minn., on April 12, 1915, the daughter of Burt and Ella (Linscott) Bennett. She was a 1934 graduate of Rochester High School.

0n June 8, 1935, Alice was united in marriage with Edward G. Lee in the Little Brown Church, Nashua, Iowa. Throughout their marriage they had lived in Fond Du Lac, Wis., until 1937, Mason City, Iowa, until 1940, Des Moines, Iowa, until 1944, Albert Lea until 1962, Santa Rosa, Calif., until 1980, and finally Albert Lea. They were members of First Presbyterian Church where Alice had been active in church circle.

Alice had worked as a bookkeeper in the Albert Lea Girl Scouts office, and Stephenson’s Ready Wear in Albert Lea, and store manager in the Emporium Department Store in the yarn and needlecraft department in California. After returning to Albert Lea she worked as a bookkeeper for Piroutte Dance Studio and Naeve Hospital from 1987-93.

Alice was a member of the Eastern Star and had been Guardian for Jobs Daughters. She enjoyed needlecrafts, baking, cooking, gardening and raising houseplants. She loved spending time with her family and friends.

Alice is survived by her daughter, Barb (Jim) Norby of Albert Lea; daughter-in-law, Darlene Lee Hendrickson of Mankato; seven grandchildren: Cathy (Rich) Norby Lieske of Winona, Carolyn (Chuck) Norby Johnson of Winterset, Iowa, Cindy (Aaron) Norby Miller of Sartell, Minn., Mike Norby of Winona, Kris (Rick) Lee Nordin of San Jose, Calif., Rebecca (Paul) Lee Carpenter of Mankato, and Dan (Susan) Lee of Maple Grove, Minn.; and 11 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Edward Lee; son, Sparky Lee; and grandson, Tim Norby.
