Helen M. Schulenburg, 98, Mankato

Helen M. Schulenburg, age 98, of Mankato, formerly of Wells, died Wednesday, Jan. 14, at the Oak Lawn Nursing Home in Mankato. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 17, at the Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells. The Rev. Meg Sander will officiate.
Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home on Saturday. Interment will be in
Rosehill Cemetery, Wells.
Helen was born on Nov. 12, 1905, the daughter of William and Sophie Akemann in Clark Township, Faribault County. She married Herold R. Schulenburg on Oct. 15, 1924, in Blue Earth.
Helen and her husband owned and operated Schulenburg Grocery for many years. She was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. She was an avid bridge player and enjoyed her many card clubs. Helen liked to crochet and share them with her family. Herald and Helen also enjoyed traveling.
She is survived by two nephews, Merlyn and his wife Lois Thisius of Albert Lea, and Bill Schulenburg of Cleveland, Minn.; two nieces:Cheryl and her husband Bob Skinner of Houston, Texas, and Betty Jo Schulenburg and husband Keith Fager of Kansas City, Kan.; and several great-nieces and -nephews and their families.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Herold, in 1975; daughter in infancy;, one sister, Marie; and one niece and one nephew.
