Funeral services for Irene C. Edwardson, age 86, of St. John’s Lutheran Home, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21, at the Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home chapel. The Rev. Jeff Lager-Hagemeister will officiate. Interment will be in the Elk Creek Cemetery, rural Kensett, Iowa. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at Bayview on Wednesday.
Irene died on Sunday, Jan. 18, 2004.
Irene C. Edwardson was born on June 17, 1917 in Worth County Iowa, the daughter of Amund and Julie (Hanson) Sanden. She was baptized and confirmed at the Bristol Lutheran Church. She attended school at Bristol Township # 5 and Kensett High School. She was a former member of the Bristol Lutheran Church and a member of Oakland Lutheran Church. On Nov. 25, 1933 Irene was united in marriage to Anton (Tony) Edwardson at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Tony preceded her in death. Irene enjoyed cats, embroidery, waltz and polka music, and going to rummage sales. She will be remembered for her sense of humor and her easy laugh.
Survivors include her daughter, Elaine and her husband Donald (Dick) Carlsen of Albert Lea; her granddaughter, Wendy Nelson; grandson, Kim and his wife Tammie Carlsen; great-grandchildren: Jennifer Nelson, Jason Nelson, Wendy Carlsen and her special friend Jeff Runden, Anne and her husband Brian Egeness, Chris Baldwin, and Dustin Baldwin; and great-great-grandchildren: Jake Nelson, Nicholas Runden, Laura Runden, and Hailey Egeness.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Tony; her parents; her brothers: Abel, Helmer, Clarence and Gilman Sanden; and her sister, Alpha Harang.
