Lawrence John Weigel, age 49, of Austin, died early Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2004, at his home.

He was born April 26, 1954, to Adam and Beverly (Johnson) Weigel in Albert Lea. He married Barbara Slowinski on June 15,1974, at Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Austin. Lawrence worked at Weyerhaeuser for 29 years. He loved fishing, watching football, reading Stephen King novels and most of all, spending time with his grandchildren.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Weigel of Austin; daughter, Rachel Weigel of Austin, son, Josh Weigel of Rochester; three grandchildren: Isiah, Tianna and Ty; brothers: Toby Weigel of Rudd, Iowa, and Randy Weigel of Mason City, Iowa; sisters: Rebecca Jacobsma of Hayward, Margaret Schindelar of Charles City, Iowa, Mary Lou Weigel of Rudd, Iowa, and Debbie Martin of Charles City, Iowa; mother-in-law, Audrey Slowinski of Blooming Prairie; and sisters-in-law: Linda Lerum of Albany, and Judy Engelken of Blooming Prairie.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and father-in-law.

Funeral mass will be held at 1 p.m. today, Jan. 30, at the Worlein Funeral Home Chapel in Austin with The Rev. Dale Tupper officiating, Friends called from 5 to 8 p.m., Thursday at Worlein Funeral Home and one hour before the service. Private family inurnment at Grandview Cemetery will be held at a later date.

Memorials preferred to donor’s choice.
