Shirley Wingfield Evenson, age 67, of Phoenix, Ariz., formerly of New Hampton, Iowa, died Feb. 11, 2004, at her daughter’s home in Phoenix after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Visitation will be from 1 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 15, at Conway-Kolbet Funeral Home in New Hampton. Private funeral services will be held in Phoenix.
Shirley Wingfield Evenson was born June 16, 1936, in Richmond, Va., the daughter of Nelson and Leona (Seay) Wingfield.
She was united in marriage to Ellsworth Jerome Evenson on Jan. 7, 1952, in Chesterfield, S.C., before moving to Clarks Grove.
Shirley began her career working for Pamida in 1965.
She was a dedicated and loyal Pamida employee for 36 years and was the store manager in New Hampton, and later Cresco, Iowa, until her retirement.
Shirley moved to Arizona with her daughter and son-in-law in March of 2003.
Her wonderful smile, fun-loving nature, hard work ethics, and her strength and will to live through battling cancer for many years will be treasured and remembered with love and admiration by her friends, family and all those whose lives she touched.
Shirley will be greatly missed.
Shirley is survived by her mother, Leona Duke of Richmond, Va.; her three children: Mitchell (Vicki) Evenson of Albert Lea, Scott (Connie) Evenson of Ellendale, and Diane (Tony) Phillis of Phoenix; six grandchildren: Amanda Evenson, Michael Evenson, David (Emily) Smith, Jenna Smith, Jeremy Evenson and Ashley; and great-grandchild, Ashton.
She was preceded in death by her father, Nelson Wingfield.
