Janet Helen Niebuhr, age 78 of Alden, died Thursday, March 11, 2004, at St. John’s Lutheran Home in Albert Lea.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday, March 15, at Grace Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. The Rev. Reverend John Henriksen will officiate.

Visitation will be held at Bruss-Heitner

Funeral Home in Wells from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, March 14, and visitation one hour prior to services on Monday at the church. Interment will be in the Alden Cemetery in Alden; private with family at a later date.

Janet was born on Sept. 20, 1925, in Albert Lea, the daughter of Lawrence and Emma (Berglund) Wayne. She graduated from the Alden High School in 1943. Janet married Robert Rasmussen on Nov. 14, 1946, in Northwood, Iowa. He preceded her in death in 1974. Janet married Kenneth Niebuhr in 1979. The couple owned and operated a resort in Park Rapids for two years, then moved to Hastings and back to Alden in 1988. She waitressed in her mother’s cafe, and was a homemaker all her married life. Janet was a member of the Alden Legion Auxiliary, and served as an election judge in Hastings and Alden. Her hobbies included belonging to four card clubs where she played bridge and &uot;500,&uot; and she was an avid walker. Janet especially enjoyed spending time with her family.

She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Niebuhr of Alden; two sons:

Paul Rasmussen and his fianc Esther Johnson of Alden, and Mark and his wife Lynnette Rasmussen in Albert Lea; one daughter, Jill and her husband Glen Mathiason of Alden; one stepson,

Steve and his wife Susie Niebuhr of Dickinson, N.D.; seven grandchildren: Tim and his wife Anne Rasmussen of Kenosha, Wis., Shannan and her husband Chris Nelson of Alden, Sheila and her husband Shawn Riebe of Alden, James and his wife Rozamond Rasmussen of Minneapolis, Jayne and her husband Shawn Linn of Alden, Robert Rasmussen of Eagan,

and Sara Rasmussen and her fianc Josh Stieler of Milwaukee, Wis.; two step-grandchildren: Zachary and Skyler Niebuhr of Dickinson, N.D.; six great-grandchildren: Renae Linn, Bryn and Noah Nelson, Drew Rasmussen, Annika Riebe and a grandson born on March 12, 2004; one sister, Perk and her husband Andy Jellinger of Brainerd; three sisters-in-law: Edna Wayne of Texas; Lois Brandt of Mapleton, and Marvel Niebuhr of Alden; two aunts: Dorothy Ackland and Ruby Wayne; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Robert Rasmussen; and two brothers, James and Paul Wayne.
