Crossing guard ensures safe passage across city streets

Every day after school, Lilia Almazan volunteers her time and effort to make sure Lakeview Elementary School’s students either safely board the buses or cross the busy and tricky intersections around the school. She has to deal with same elements as the mail carriers, rain, sleet or snow.

&uot;My favorite part of the job is talking to people and my friends.&uot;

With the job, comes power and responsibility. The school and the students trust that she will allow them to cross the street without harm. And the bright orange flag held in her hands contains the power to stop traffic, which allows her friends safe passage.
