Johnathan William Talamantes, 17, was sentenced to 48 months prison Tuesday after pleading guilty in district court to aggravated robbery.

Talamantes was charged with three counts of aggravated robbery and one count of burglary. Because of the nature of the crime, he faced felony charges and was tried as an adult. He has been jailed in Freeborn County since July.

Around midnight on July 15, 2003, Talamantes appeared at a residence on College Street, took out a gun and demanded the wallets of three adults, court reports said. Talamantes then took their I.D.s and keys, and allegedly assaulted one of the men.

Talamantes left the scene, but police later found him at his residence where he tried to flee. An officer and his K-9 partner chased Talamantes and found him crouched in the grass. The officer saw a black metallic semi-automatic-looking handgun nearby, which turned out to be a Crossman B.B. air pistol. Also found were one military I.D. and two Minnesota driver’s licenses, keys, a marijuana pipe and a silver lightweight pole.

At a hearing in November, Talamantes admitted to having sold marijuana to one of the victims. He said they didn’t pay him so he went to collect.

He will receive credit for time served. He also faces a $100 fine. The maximum sentence for such a crime is 20 years in prison and a $35,000 fine.

He will likely be transported to a prison in St. Cloud, according to court officials.
