In the first game, the Albert Lea Tigers didn’t have enough scoring opportunities.
In the second, they couldn’t capitalize on them.
The Tigers were swept by Mankato West in a Big Nine baseball doubleheader at Hammer Field Friday, falling 12-1 in the opener and 8-3 while stranding baserunners in every inning of game two.
Jared Butler was 2-for-2 in the first game. Josh Diaz had the only other Albert Lea hit.
Brandon Klukow started on the mound and went 2 1/3 innings. Tony Dugstad allowed one earned run the rest of the way.
The Tigers had eight hits in the second game, including a double and a triple by Ryan Truesdell. Kris Pleiss was 2-for-3, Donald Graves 2-for-4. Travis Klatt and Preston Dahl added one hit apiece.
Dahl pitched the first five innings and took the loss. Dugstad relieved him in the sixth.
“They capitalized on our errors,” said Tigers coach Joe Sczublewski. “And we left too many runners stranded.”
The Tigers, 1-8 in the Big Nine and 2-9 overall, have a busy week, hosting Owatonna Tuesday and Winona Thursday before traveling to Fairmont for a nonconference game on Saturday.
