Anna C. Arett, 102, Moscow Township

Anna C. (Earl) Arett, age 102, a resident of St. Mark’s Lutheran Home for the past 10 years, died on Wednesday, June 9, 2004. She was born on May 14, 1902, to Casper and Lily (Lerum) Earl at Oakland, Minn.

Anna graduated from Austin High School in 1919. On July 5, 1922, she was married to Fred J. Arett in Austin. He preceded her in death on Dec. 4, 1971. Anna was a lifelong resident of Moscow Township, Freeborn County.

She was a member of Oakland Baptist Church and Ladies Aid, Fairview Cemetery Auxiliary, Oakland-Moscow 4-H Leader, District 96 School Board, Neighborhood-Get-To-Gather Club. She assisted with the Flower Show at the Mower County Fair for many years. She was a member of three garden clubs, Horticulture Society, the National Hemorcallis Society, and the National Hosta Society. She had a special love for daylilies and hosta plants.

Anna had many hobbies including tatting, knitting, and she was an avid quilter and created many quilts for her family and friends.

Anna is survived by three children, Richard (Theresia) Arett of Fremont, Neb., Patricia (Raeburn) Hanson of Waltham, Priscilla (Dean) Johnson of Logansport, Ind.; four grandsons, Gary (Vicki) Hanson of rural Austin, Ralph (Pam) Arett of Palmyra, Neb., Bruce (Rundi) Johnson of Oakdale, Calif., and Robert (Renee) Johnson of Rogers, Ark.; eight great-grandchildren, Jeffrey and Lori Arett, Jessica and Jared Hanson, Travis, Everett, Logan and Alex Johnson; one sister-in-law, Gwen Earl of Visalia, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by husband, Fred J. Arett on Dec. 4, 1971; son, Ralph, who gave his life at age 18 in World War II in France; five brothers; and five sisters.

The family prefers memorials to St. Mark’s Lutheran Home.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., Wednesday, June 16, 2004, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Home with the Rev. Greg and Chaplain Cathy Mannel officiating. Friends may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Worlein Funeral Home and at St. Mark’s one hour before the service on Wednesday. Burial is at Oakwood Cemetery.

Casket bearers are Gary Hanson, Ralph Arett, Robert Johnson, Jeffrey Arett, Dale VanDenover and John Lafferty.
