Wilbur Riemann passed away peacefully at his home with family at his side at the age of 82 on Saturday the 26th of June 2004.
Wilbur was born on March 25, 1922 in West Union, Iowa, to Dexter and Ada Riemann. He spent his early years in Austin and graduated from Austin High School. His service to his country in the Air Force was in the capacity of an airplane mechanic for four years beginning on Sept. 30, 1942. He returned to Austin and applied those skills gained in the service as an auto mechanic and finally retiring from the Austin Public Schools as a custodial engineer.
Wilbur, affectionately know as Willy, took great pride in his family comprised of four children, 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
His love and devotion to them could be seen by his continual attentiveness to them and always placing them primary in his thoughts and actions. There are countless memories of how he helped make family get-togethers special occasions through his energetic and enthusiastic interaction with his family. His greatness wasn’t seen in any single act, but rather a collection of meaningful acts of kindness over the years filling us with admiration and love for all of the support provided.
The love of his life, Margaret, and he lived life to the fullest and were inseparable till her passing five years ago. His longing to once again be at her side was answered by the grace of God. His family now takes comfort in knowing they once again are together, eternally.
Wilbur is survived by his daughters and son-in-law: Sandy and Richard Kos of Austin, and Cheryl Bakker of Austin; sons and daughter-in-law: Tom and Sue Riemann of Albert Lea, and Stuart Riemann of Austin; and grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held 4 p.m. Thursday, July 1, at the First United Methodist Church, 204 1st Ave. N.W., Austin, with refreshments to follow.
