Funeral services for Jeffrey Warren Severson, of Bricelyn, will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 11, at Concordia Lutheran Church in Pickerel Lake Township,
Freeborn County, with visitation one hour prior to services at church. Interment will be at Concordia Lutheran Cemetery and will be private at a later date. Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Bricelyn is in charge of arrangements.
Jeffrey Warren Severson was born on Dec. 23, 1955, in Albert Lea, to George A. Severson and Alberta (Pestorious) Heiny. He was baptized at Concordia Lutheran Church, Pickerel Lake Township, and confirmed at Salem Lutheran Church, Albert Lea. He attained the rank of Eagle Scout in 1971 and graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1974. He and Dawn (Reeves) Severson were married in 1975. They had two children:
Jeffrey Jr. and Sarah.
Jeff served as an Aviation Ordnanceman in the United States Navy from 1975 to 1981, earning the rank of First Class Petty Officer. Upon his military discharge, he attended Albert Lea Area Vocational Technical Institute, earning a one-year degree in Carpentry and Mobile Home Maintenance, and a two-year degree in Industrial Maintenance. After a short time in the cities, he moved to Bricelyn and gained employment with Nuvex, Inc. (formerly Custom Food Processors) of Blue Earth as the maintenance supervisor. Jeff was a dedicated employee and instrumental in the growth of the company.
Jeff was a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. He was avidly involved in hunting, fishing, carpentry, and Harley riding, and enjoyed watching Vikings games and cooking. He loved his grandchildren dearly and liked to make people laugh with his story-telling.
Jeff died on Saturday, Aug. 7, 2004, at United Hospital in Blue Earth of a massive heart attack. He was 48 years, seven months, and 15 days of age.
Jeff is survived by his children: Jeffrey Jr. and fiancee Kari Beese of Brush Creek, and Sarah and husband Erik Oppedal of Bricelyn; his grandchildren: Hannah and Trevor Oppedal; his mother and step-father: Alberta and Dean Heiny of Lake Mills, Iowa; his four sisters: Debra and husband Zane Merriman of Yale, Okla., Sue Kiel of Grand Marais, Minn., Patty Severson of Rochester, and Mary Warns of Waubay, S.D.; and numerous nieces and nephews, and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, George, in 1967; his paternal grandparents: Henry and Nellie Severson; and his maternal grandparents: Warren and Roselyn Pestorious.
