Funeral services for Helmer H. Brandt, age 81, of Hayward, will be held 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 23,
at the Hayward Lutheran Church. Rev. John Malm will officiate.

Helmer died Monday, Sept. 20, 2004, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.
Helmer Harold Brandt was born Nov. 16, 1922, to Ferdinand and Emma (Beuthin) Brandt in Hayward and was a lifelong resident of the area. On June 18, 1943, he was united in marriage to Helen Krowiorz in Albert Lea. Helmer was a farmer and had also worked at Queen Products, Albert Lea Freezer Warehouse, and in construction for Paul Olson. He was a member of the Hayward Lutheran Church and the Moose Lodge. Helmer enjoyed playing cards, bowling, and watching the Twins.
Survivors include his wife, Helen of Hayward; children: Harold and his friend Diane Underwood of Albert Lea, Ruth Ann Flaskerud and her husband Gene of Hayward, Ronnie and his wife Delcie of Albert Lea, Dennis and his wife Janice of Hayward, and Jerry and his wife Gayle of Owatonna; 18 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; brothers: Edmund and his wife Bert of Albert Lea, and Walter of Austin; sisters: Loretta Brandt of Wells, and Edna Darnel of California; and many nieces and nephews.
Helmer was preceded in death by his parents; brothers and sisters: Raymond Brandt, Bertha Cafourek, Audrey Watkins, LaVonna Glassel, Leonard Brandt and Elva Jochumson; and daughter-in-law, Paulette Brandt.
Helmer will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
