Athan Justine Langlie, 93, Albert Lea

The funeral service for Athan Justine Langlie will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec 28, at First Lutheran Church, Ellendale. The Rev. Arne Halbakken will officiate. Burial will be in First Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. today, Monday, at Bonnerup Funeral Service in Ellendale, and one hour before the service at the church.

Athan died on Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2004, at Albert Lea Medical Center. He was 93 years old.

Athan was born in Steele County on June 12, 1911, the son of Henry and Sena (Thompson) Langlie. He attended country school in Steele County.

On Oct. 26, 1935, he was united in marriage with Helyn Hanson at Nashua, Iowa. He, along with his brother, Arvid, farmed in Berlin Township, Steele County, from 1943 until his retirement in 1974. He also did custom farming for area neighbors. After his retirement, Athan drove truck for Ole Loken. He and Helyn then moved into Ellendale.

Athan was a member of Lions Club, Flying Farmers (1961 he served at the National Director), served on the Security State Bank Board from 1956-1984, the Berlin Township Board for 15 years and was a school bus driver. He was a motorcycle enthusiast, loved horses, woodworking, and meeting his friends for coffee at the Ellendale Truck Stop.

Athan is survived by his wife, Helyn of Ellendale; four children: Barbara Ann (Dale) Mrotz of Ellendale, Jerry Dean (JoAnne) Langlie of Hayward, Bruce Athan Langlie of Ellendale, and Julie Helyn (Douglas) Blouin of Ellendale; seven grandchildren: Monte (Toni) Mrotz, Lisa Morin, Victor (Kellie) Mrotz, Dan Mrotz, Jason Langlie, Cody Blouin and Levi Blouin; seven great-grandchildren: Mikkel (Jennie) Iverson, Jami (Travis) Marzolf, Justin Mrotz, Tori Mrotz, Hudson Mrotz and Sophia Mrotz; two great-great-grandchildren: Tyler Iverson and Ethan Marzolf; one sister, Henrietta Lee of Clarks Grove; one brother, Eugene (Stella) Langlie of Ellendale; and one sister-in-law, Slyvia Langlie of Ellendale.

He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son; brothers: Arvid (Eva) Langlie, Howard (Margaret) Langlie and

Leighton Langlie; and sisters: Orpha (Earl) Sommers and Arvilla (Lester) Otto.
