Francis T. Frisco Segar, 85, Wells

Francis T. &uot;Frisco&uot; Segar, age 85, of Wells, died Sunday, Dec. 5, 2004, at the Parkview Care Center in Wells, where he had resided the past five years.

Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec.9,

at St. Casimir Catholic Church in Wells, with Rev. Eugene Stenzel officiating. Visitation will be held at Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home from 5 to 8

p.m. Wednesday, with a prayer service at 6:30 p.m., and continues one hour prior to services on Thursday at the church.

Interment will be at St. Casimir Catholic Cemetery in Wells, with military honors by the Wells Color Guard.

Francis was born on March 11, 1919, in Wells, the son of Peter and Agnes (Hodapp) Segar. He graduated from Wells High School in 1938. After graduation he worked at Segar Bakery until entering the U.S. Navy. He was a gunner in the U.S. Navy from 1942-1945. On Feb. 22, 1945, he was united in marriage to Marvine Voigt (while on leave from the Navy) at St. Casimir Catholic Church in Wells. After his honorable discharge, he worked at Ruffing’s Meat Market for 25 years and worked for 22 years for Schulenburg’s SuperValu, retiring in 1990.

He was a member of St. Casimir Catholic Church, sang in the choir, and served on the St. Casimir Cemetery Board. He was a member of the Wells American Legion for 49 years. His hobbies included cooking, collecting Indian woodcarvings, coin collecting, and being with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Marvine Segar of Wells; six children:

four sons: David and his wife Mary Segar of Fairmont, Mark and his wife Marlys Segar of Cherokee, Iowa, Paul and his wife Cathie Segar of Tucson, Ariz., and

John and his wife Jeanne Segar of Woodbury, Minn.; two daughters: Andrea and her husband William Groskreutz Jr. of Wells, and Stephanie and her husband Lt. Col. John Flynn of Germany; 15 Grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren ; six step great-grandchildren; one brother, James Segar of Chisholm, Minn.; one sister, Joan Waibel of Bird Island, Minn.; four sisters-in-law: Virginia Segar of Mankato, Melva Pierce of New Brighton, Minn., Ladonna Seipp of Albert Lea, and Wilma Petersen of Duluth; two brothers-in-law: Melvin (wife Margaret) Voigt of Wells, and Hilbert (wife Bernadine) Voigt of Albert Lea; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Gregory and Raymond; two sisters-in-law: Bertha and Emma Segar; and one brother-in-law, Pat Waibel.
