Funeral services for Velma
Hareid will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 17, at First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. The Rev. John Holt will officiate. Interment will be at Hillcrest Cemetery immediately following the service. Visitation is scheduled for Thursday, Dec. 16, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Bonnerup Funeral Home in Albert Lea.
Velma died Monday, Dec. 13, 2004, at Thorne Crest.
She was born March 29, 1920, in Albert Lea to Vern and Hulda (Peterson) Stoop. Velma graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1938. She married Odean Hareid on June 24, 1943, in Boise, Idaho. After the war, they moved to Albert Lea. They had two sons, William and John.
She worked at Albert Lea Clinic in the insurance department for about 20 years. Velma was active in First Lutheran Church, Mission Circle # 19, Caring and Sharing FLCW and Altar Guild and as a Naeve Auxiliary volunteer.
Velma loved her grand children and great-grandchildren and “enjoyed their visits very much.” She very much enjoyed talking and sharing stories with people.
She was preceded in death by her parents: Vern and Hulda Stoop; her sister, Arlene, in infancy; and her husband, Odean
She is survived by her sons: William Hareid and his wife Gloria, and John Hareid and his wife Patti; and grandchildren: Kris Larson (Andy) and their children, Spencer, Holly, Kaylee, Ellie, Jared and Seth of Columbia, Mo., Sarah Hicks (Alex) and their children, Madison, Logan and Luke of Cologne, Germany, Jeff Hareid (Ann) and their children, Erik and Evan of Albert Lea, Aaron Hareid (Katherine) of Apple Valley, Minn., and Melissa Hareid of Minneapolis.
The family prefers memorials be made to First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea.
