Irwin John Rodsater, 95, Wells

Funeral services for Irwin J. Rodsater, age 95, formerly of Manchester, will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 24, at West Freeborn Lutheran Church. The Rev. Dennis Frank will officiate. Interment will be in the West Freeborn Cemetery with military honors accorded by the Freeborn County Servicemen’s Organizations. Visitation is one hour prior to the services at the church. Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home is assisting with the arrangements.

Irwin died Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2005, at Parkview Care Center in Wells.

Irwin John Rodsater was born Aug. 14, 1909, to Alexander J. and Turella (Gunderson) Rodsater in Manchester Township. He graduated from Albert Lea High School and attended college for two years in Decorah before going to the University of Minnesota. After college, Irwin returned to the family farm near Manchester that he still owns.

He served in the United States Army during World War II. Irwin was a member of West Freeborn Lutheran Church where he sang in the church choir and was also a member of the American Legion.

He enjoyed fishing and as a young man was a very good baseball player.

Survivors include his nephews: Jon Rodsater and family of Illinois, and Franklin Blye and family of California.

Irwin was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Viola and her husbands, Dr. Blye and Joseph McKirahan; and brother, Alexander Rodsater and his wife, Genevieve.
