Leora Sylvira Schoeneman, 92, of Owatonna, died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2005, at Cedarview Nursing Home.
She was born March 4, 1912, in Stewart, Minn., the daughter of Julius and Helene (Sell) Tollefson. She graduated from Stewart High School and attended Mankato State University, where she received a teaching degree. She married Rufus Edwin Schoeneman in Stewart on Sept 3, 1936.
Leora and Rufus lived in Sibley State Park, Hutchinson, Spencer, Iowa, Jackson, Minn., and St. Louis Park before moving to Owatonna in 1942. Leora has lived in Owatonna for 63 years. For several years Leora was a substitute teacher, election judge, and sales clerk for Brett’s Department Store. She was also a homemaker, past member of the woman’s club, domestic science club, and a member of several bridge and supper clubs for more than 30 years. She was a charter member of the Owatonna Arts Center. She was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church for 63 years and was in the Leah Altar guild.
Leora is survived by her sons, John Shoeneman of Owatonna and Dr. Daniel and Lois Schoeneman of Albert Lea; her grandson, Dr. Michael and Dr. Diane Schoeneman of Owatonna; her granddaughter, Kristen and Matthew Thurber of Edina; and two great-grandsons, Daniel and David Schoeneman.
She was preceded in death by her husband Rufus; her parents Julius and Helene Tollefson; her two sisters; and a brother.
Visitation will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church on Tuesday from 10 to 11 a.m.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 8, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Owatonna. The Rev. Louisa Fure will officiate. Interment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
Memorials are preferred to Trinity Lutheran Church.
