MINNEAPOLIS (AP) &045; Though Janel McCarville will be difficult for Minnesota to replace next season, Jamie Broback has already shown she can be the Gophers’ go-to inside player.

While McCarville made only three field goals, Broback had 23 points and five rebounds to help third-seeded Minnesota beat Virginia 73-58 on Monday and advance again to the regional semifinals.

In her final home game, McCarville went 3-for-7 from the floor and finished with 11 points, 14 rebounds and four fouls &045; blowing a kiss and waving to the roaring Williams Arena crowd of 10,043 as she left.

But Broback, a sophomore who emerged as the Gophers’ second-leading scorer, kept Minnesota’s offense in step. Shannon Schonrock added 11 points and Shannon Bolden had 10 points for the Gophers (26-7), who play second-seeded Baylor in Tempe, Ariz., Saturday &045; their third straight trip to the round of 16.

McCarville picked up her second foul and sat for the last 10 minutes of the first half, leaving Broback and Schonrock to do most of the work. They each scored eight points before the break.
