Three area teams are still playing baseball for the spring season deep into their respective section tournaments. In Section 1, Class A, three teams remain in the hunt for a state tournament berth.

Today at 5 p.m., Glenville-Emmons will battle Lewiston-Altura in hopes of earning another game

with Rushford-Peterson to be played at 7:30. p.m.

So far, R-P is undefeated in the tournament, so the winner of G-E and L-A must top the Trojans twice. If needed, the final game will be played Wednesday night.

These games are played at Mayo Field in Rochester.

The other two area teams still playing are United South Central and New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva. They are both playing in Section 2, Class AA where four teams remain.

United South Central needs a win in the 5 p.m. game against a tough Minnesota Valley Lutheran squad to advance to face the Panthers for a 7 p.m. tilt. Should USC top MVL, it would be the fourth meeting of the year between NRHEG and USC.

The winner of the USC/MVL vs. NRHEG game must beat Kasson-Mantorville twice on Thursday to get to state. K-M defeated NRHEG 9-0 last weekend to advance to the section championship.

Section 2AA games are played at St. Peter.

Check the Wednesday Tribune for complete results from all tournament contests.
