U-14 girls hang tough, put together solid season

The U-14 girls soccer team finished up with an 8-2-2 record this year.&160;
They continued to play hard throughout the summer, but were missing key players every game.&160;
The team picked up key wins against Fairmont twice (6-0 and 7-0) and Faribault (1-0).
The team tied New Ulm twice and suffered loses to Mankato, and Owatonna.
The girls then played in the Coon Rapid Tournament July 8-9.&160; It was a long hot weekend starting Saturday against a very aggressive Fridley team which downed them 2-0.&160;
Saturday, afternoon they came back and beat the West Tonka Whitehawks 1-0. Sunday morning
was the last game of pool play and the locals ended up tying 1-1 with Elk River.&160;
After two overtime periods and winning the shoot out the Albert Lea girls advanced to the consolation championship.&160; They played an extremely tight game against Wright County and at the end they were tied 1-1.&160;
Again after overtime play the girls lost the shootout.&160; It was a great team effort and a fun weekend despite the out come.&160;
Kate Ellertson, Jayna Jepson and Abby LeBrun from the U-12 team came along to fill out the squad.
