Strong start not enough for Tigers, fall to Southland in four games

ADAMS &045; As quick as things started for the Albert Lea volleyball team they came apart just as fast in a four game loss to Southland, 14-25, 25-14, 25-12, 25-12.

The Tigers, who are without four players who would be major contributors, had everything going early on combining passing, digging and hitting.

That team effort allowed them to breeze to the first game win, however, after that point the Tigers struggled with mistakes both physical and mental.

&uot;I think the girls have been playing together for nearly three weeks and they were really gelling early on,&uot; said Albert Lea head coach Preston Peper.

&uot;But I don’t know what happened after that first game.

We just let down and could not get anything going.&uot;

Brooke Woitas had four kills and eight digs for the Tigers, Hannah Gudal added 16 assists and

Albert Lea did serve at a 93 percent clip as a team but it was not enough.

&uot;We are going to spend a lot of time running our offense in practice, and trying to make better decisions while cutting down on the mental errors,&uot; said Peper.

The Tigers are back on the road Thursday when they face Faribault at 7 p.m.
