Viola Linnes, 99, of Albert Lea

Funeral services for Viola E. Linnes, age 99, of Albert Lea will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 31, at Grace Lutheran Church. The Rev. Todd Walsh will officiate. Interment will be in the Bethel Lutheran Cemetery in Hoffman, Minn., on Thursday. Friends may greet the family one hour prior to the services at the church on Wednesday. Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.

Viola died Sunday, Aug. 28, 2005, at St. John’s Lutheran Home.

Viola E. Linnes was born Dec. 30, 1905, to Swan and Mathilda Ausland in Hoffman, Minn. On July 1, 1926, she was united in marriage to Claude Linnes in Hoffman. He preceded her in death on Dec. 2, 1949. Viola was employed at the Hoffman School in the dietary department as a cook from 1950 to 1957. She then became a house mother for the Gustavus Adolphus nursing students until her retirement in 1974 when she moved to Albert Lea. Viola was a member of Grace Lutheran Church since that time. She enjoyed conducting Bible Study and visiting with people.

Survivors include her son, Luther and his wife, Marjorie Linnes; daughters-in-law: Patricia Linnes and Joanne Linnes; 10 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.

Viola was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Claude; sons: Adrian and Lowell; daughter, Vianne; grandson, Jeffrey Linnes; and son-in-law, William Wickboldt.
