Ethel Hill, 92, Albert Lea

Funeral services for Ethel Elizabeth Hill will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 8, at the First Presbyterian Church of Albert Lea. The Rev. Dwight Netzer will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery, Albert Lea.
Mrs. Hill died Saturday, Sept. 3, 2005, at St. John’s Lutheran Home in Albert Lea. She was 92 years of age.
Ethel was born Oct. 28, 1912, in Freeborn County, the daughter of Lars Peter and Anna Margretha (Hansen) Highby. She was a graduate of Albert Lea High School.
On Sept. 27, 1936, she was united in marriage to C. Daniel Hill at the Trinity Lutheran Church of Albert Lea.
Ethel enjoyed her working partnership with her husband at Hill’s Gardens, the family
business. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, and was active in the church circle.
Ethel loved gardening and baking, rock collecting and working word games and puzzles. She had a great love for her family and spending time with her grandchildren.
Ethel is survived by her four children: Kay (Hill) Grotenhuis and husband Paul, C Doug Hill and wife Diane, Paul Hill and wife Judy, and Jim Hill and his wife JoAnn. There are eight grandchildren: Lynn (Grotenhuis) Meza, Ann (Grotenhuis) Johnson, Kris (Hill) Gilbertson, Tony Hill, Karen Hill, Jennifer (Hill) Wedin,
Melonie (Hill) Robran and Jody (Hill) Schultz; 12 great-grandchildren: Dayna Rasmussen, Katie Johnson, Noah Hill, Kellie Johnson, Jessie Gilbertson, Heather Gilbertson, Faith Wedin, Hayley Wedin, Trey Hill, Chase Hill, Sophia Meza and Aliyah Robran; and two sisters-in-law: Louise Highby and Virginia Sether.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, C. Daniel; four brothers and three sisters.
Ethel was a wonderful mother and grandmother who will be greatly missed by her loving family and many friends.
