Howard Nelson, 81, Albert Lea

Funeral services for Howard &8221;Bud&8220; F. Nelson, 81, of Albert Lea, will be held at 1:30 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 18, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Albert Lea. The Rev. Curtis Zieske will officiate.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m., Monday, at Bonnerup Funeral Chapel and one hour before the service at the church.

Bud died on Thursday, Oct. 13, 2005, at St. John’s Lutheran Home.

Bud was born on June 28, 1924, in Hayward, the son of Frank C. and Hannah (Heegard) Nelson. He was a 1942 graduate of Ellendale-Geneva High School.

On Sept. 21, 1952, he married Arline Petersen. They were members of Trinity Lutheran Church where Bud had done volunteer maintenance work.

Bud had worked for Nelson & Bailey Construction Co., Sorenson Brothers Construction Co., City of Albert Lea, Albert Lea Township Road Maintenance and as a volunteer firefighter for Albert Lea Township.

He was a member of the Albert Lea Sportsman Club and Danish Brotherhood. He enjoyed fishing, visiting with friends and especially being with grandchildren and family.

Bud is survived by one daughter, Rebecca (David) McPherson; one son, Noel Nelson of Albert Lea; four grandchildren, Nicholas McPherson of Albert Lea, Vanessa Nelson and Erik Seath of Albert Lea, Holly Nelson of Albert Lea and Dane Nelson of Edina; two great-grandchildren, Jayden Seath of Albert Lea and Elizabeth Smith of Orono; four sisters, Irene Jensen of Austin, Atlanta Rustad of Lincoln, Neb., Donna Wheeler of Mansfield, Texas, and Gayle Fitch of Bossier City, La.; nieces; nephews; brothers and sisters-in-law.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Arline in 1985; a sister, Myrtle Freeman; and three brothers, Wilford, Roger and Ferrell Nelson.
