50 years ago – 1955

€The following players were named to the Baseball Writers Ass’n. of America Major League All-star team: 1b – Ted Kluszewski (Cinncinati Reds); 2b – Nellie Fox (Chicago White Sox); 3b – Eddie Mathews (Milwaukee Braves); ss – Ernie Banks (Chicago Cubs); lf – Ted Williams (Boston Red Sox); cf – Willie Mays (New York Giants); rf – Duke Snider (Brooklyn Dodgers); c – Roy Campanella (Brooklyn Dodgers); rhp – Robin Roberts (Philadelphia Phillies); lhp – Whitey Ford (New York Yankees).

€Junior Terry Crowley, a graduate of Albert Lea High School, was named captain for the first inter-collegiate wrestling team in Notre Dame history.

€Named to the All Middle Eight Conference Football Team from Wells High School were halfback Leon Kremer, tackle Daryl Schreiber and end Dale Ashpole.

25 years ago – 1980

€Kansas City Royals third baseman George Brett was named the Most Valuable Player in the American League. He led the league with a .390 batting average, .664 slugging percentage and .461 on base percentage.

€Named to the Border League All-Conference Volleyball team were: LInda Kopececk, Tami Staloch and Dawn Steen from Freeborn; Janet Dahl, Rhonda Frisbie and Rita Borglum from Bricelyn; Cheryl Oldfather and Nona Wolfe from Kiester-Walters.

€Named to the Gopher Conference Volleyball team were: Alison Smith and Karen Getskow from New Richland-Hartland; Barb Peterson from Ellendale-Geneva; Darcy Houg from Glenville.

10 years ago – 1995

€The Minnesota Twins Marty Cordova was named the 1995 American League Rookie of the Year. He hit 24 homeruns, stole 20 bases and had a .277 batting average.

€1992 ALHS graduate Stefanie Schultz placed first in the 21 and under female division of the

Twin Cities Marathon.

€Megan Broskoff of ALHS set a school record in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:08.3 and advanced to state.

€1995 ALHS graduate Donna Boom and 1995 Wells High School graduate Melanie Lepp will play golf for the University of Minnesota.
