Marion Ahern, 100, of Albert Lea

The funeral service for Marion D. Ahern of 1201 Garfield Ave., Albert Lea, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 22, at St. Theodore Catholic Church. The Rev. James Berning and Deacon Mike Ellis will officiate. Interment will be in St. Theodore Cemetery. Friends may visit with family one hour before the service at the church. Bonnerup Funeral Service is assisting the family with arrangements.

Marion died on Monday, Feb. 20, 2006, at Thorne Crest Retirement Center, Health Care Wing. She was 100.

She was born in Madison Lake, Minn., on Aug. 20, 1905, the daughter of William and Alice (Vaughn) Doran.

She graduated from high school and then from Mankato Normal School. She taught school in Madison Lake for nine years.

On Nov. 29, 1932, she married a fellow teacher, Garrett Ahern, in Madison Lake. They lived in Minneota, Sioux Falls and then made their home in Albert Lea in 1945.

She was a member of St. Theodore Catholic Church and had been active in the Rosary Society and the Knights of Columbus Auxiliary.

Marion was very strong in her faith and was always seeking ways to learn, understand and continue to grow.

She was very committed to education and in addition to seeking enjoyment in teaching, she also strove to see her children obtain the best possible education.

Spending time with her family was the most important thing to Marion.

Marion is survived by four children: Patrick (Kay) Ahern of Madison, Wis., William (Myra) Ahern of Madison, Wis., Sharon (Bob) Schrantz of St. Paul, Richard (Cathy) Ahern of Mankato; 11 grandchildren: Joan Moore of Madison, Wis., John (Kathy) Ahern of St. Paul, Lee (Coleen) Ahern of

Pittsburg, Pa., Peggy (Jim) Steele of Madison, Wis., Mary Beth Bloomquist of

Germantown, N.Y., Christopher Ahern of Philadelphia, Pa., Kathy (Terry) Simcok of New Hope, Doran (Chris) Conry of St. Paul, Sarah Schrantz of St. Paul, Patrick Ahern (Connie Weingartz) of St. Paul, Megan (Andy) Schmidt, St. Paul; 11 great-grandchildren; and brother Ken Doran of Mankato.

She was preceded in death by her husband Garrett; sisters Alice, Lucille, Florence and Martha; and brothers Walter and Bob.

Marion was a wonderful mother and grandmother, wise, patient and accepting, and always loving unconditionally.
