Doris I. Rambo, age 96, of Winnebago, died Saturday, April 8, 2006, at Parker-Oaks, Winnebago. &160;

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 15, 2006, at 10:30 a.m., at the Berean Baptist Church in Winnebago, with the Revs. William Bidwell and Rodney Yates officiating. Burial will be in Vernon Center Cemetery, Vernon Center. Visitation time will be one hour prior to services at the Church on Saturday.

She was born Jan. 29, 1910, at Garden City, the daughter of Elijah and Mary (Bernard) Griffith.

She attended Green Valley Country School through fourth grade and then graduated from Amboy High School in 1929. She next attended Mankato Commercial College in Mankato. Doris went to the Minneapolis/St. Paul area to find a job but no secretarial work was found, so she ended up working as a maid. On Dec. 7, 1935, she married Alan Rambo at the Griffith home north of Amboy. They lived on the Wm. Rambo farm west of Vernon Center, in the house in which Alan had been born. Doris became licensed for welfare children and over the next 10 years Alan and Doris took in nine children.

In 1937 she joined the First Baptist Church in Vernon Center. She remained a member there until it closed. She and Alan then attended First Baptist in Madelia. They left that Church to join the Berean Baptist Church in Winnebago and helped build the Church the congregation uses now. She was a lifelong Sunday School Teacher and was known for her interest in flowers and gardens.

She is survived by her son: David and wife, Pat Rambo, Alden, grandson: James Rambo, Alden, granddaughter: Juli and husband, Eric Anderson, Albert Lea, two great-grandchildren: Jaden and Elise Anderson, Albert Lea, brother: Loren Griffith, Amboy, sister: Grace Griffith, Mapleton, numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband (Alan), four brothers, Harold, Marvin, Arthur, and Ivan Griffith, and three sisters, Ilah, Nelda, and Inas Griffith.
