Marilyn Van Beek, 74

Funeral services for Marilyn E. Van Beek, of Monticello, Minn., formerly of Hollandale, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 12, at the Hollandale Reformed Church. The Revs. Mark Volkers and William Bankester will officiate. Interment will be in the Hollandale Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday at Bonnerup Funeral Service, Albert Lea, and one hour before the service at the church.

Marilyn died on Friday, April 7, 2006, at the Monticello Big Lake Nursing Home where she had been a resident for the past six years. She was 74.

She was born on May 8, 1931, in Hollandale, the daughter of Delas Vernell and Edna Marie Elizabeth (Rue) Tostenson. As a young girl she got to travel in the southwestern states because of her father’s work. When she was a teen, the family made their home in Hollandale. She graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1949. She was united in marriage to David A. Van Beek on July 24, 1952, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hollandale.

Marilyn had worked at Veldman Equipment, the Hollandale Hardware Store, and Paul D. Jones Company. She was a member of the Hollandale Reformed Church. Marilyn enjoyed being active in the Republican Party and had volunteered for the Cancer Society and in her younger years was a girl scout leader.

The focus of Marilyn’s life was her family and she always put their care and needs first.

She is survived by three sons and their wives: Michael and Belinda Van Beek of Monticello, Doug and Dawn Vukson-Van Beek of Minneapolis, Keith and Melanie Van Beek of Rochester; grandchildren Lauren Marie, Stephanie Marie, Remington Elizabeth and Gavin David Louis; two sisters: Bette Rae Peterson and family of Austin and April; sisters -in-law: Iris Reed and Joan Reynen both of Hollandale, brothers-in-law Phil Van Beek

and his wife Carol of Hollandale and Tom Van Beek and his wife Julie of Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband David in 1999, and an infant sibling.

Marilyn was a very loving mother and grandmother and will be greatly missed.
