Charles Myre, 87

Charles (Chuck) C. Myre Sr., Colonel, USMC Ret., passed away May 21, 2006, at the age of 87. He was preceded in death by his loving, adorable wife of 63 years, Jane on Oct. 10, 2004. She was Senior Minneapolis Aquatennial Princess in 1996, and brother Herman.

Survived by four offspring: daughter, Jayne Anne Olson, sons, Charles &8220;Kip&8221; Jr. (Nancy), Richard (Theresa), Greg (Pam); 13 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and sister Ruby Knudtson.

Chuck was commanding officer of Marine Air Corps Fighter Squadron VMF 213, 1955 – 58, and VTU 16, 1958 – 60 in the Marine Reserve at the Naval Base in Minneapolis.

His commercial aviation career encompassed 22 years and concluded as a captain for Braniff International Airways in 1970 due to coronary heart disease. He had 23,600 hours total flight time.

He participated in numerous athletic activities. He captained the Albert Lea High School football team in 1935; was a University of Minnesota Golden Gopher Footballer in 1937 – 38 – 39; professionally: &8220;Milwaukee Chiefs&8221; in 1940, scoring four touchdowns in his first professional game; golf: seven holes-in-one; weight lifting: set American Bench Press Record in 165 pound class for 70 – 74 age group. His father, Helmer Myre, was Light-Heavy Weight Champion Wrestler of the World in 1920 – 22.

Visitation at the Cremation Society of Minnesota, 7100 France Ave. S., Edina, 952-924-4100, Thursday, May 25, from 6 to 8 p.m. Memorial service Saturday, May 27, at 1 p.m. at Richfield United Methodist Church, 5835 Lyndale Ave. S., Minneapolis.
