Editorial: It looks like rain, but it doesn’t

No wonder the weather forecasters are scratching their heads. Whether the forecast calls for partly cloudy or sunny, a weather system moves over Freeborn County it seems once a day lately.
And yet, no rain.
Sometimes, we get a few raindrops. Sometimes, it drizzles very lightly. Sometimes, the clouds are bearing down on us like they are ready to pour buckets.
And yet, no rain.
Meanwhile, the humidity is strong enough that the air seems like a sea of water vapor more than oxygen. All that evaporation traps the heat and gives us our hot summer nights. Ever cook water on a frying pan? With temperatures in the 90s, there’s plenty of water leaving our ground and not much returning.
Grass is starting to turn brown. Crops are doing fine but not for long.
Alas, the forecast offer no relief. The wait for rain continues. Let’s hope the wait is short. Meteorologists have us hanging on every word.
