Isabel Schaefer, 77, Austin

Isabel Lorraine Schaefer, age 77, of Austin, died Saturday, Aug. 5, 2006, at Comforcare Good Samaritan Center surrounded by her loving family.

Isabel was born Dec. 29, 1928, in Albert Lea, the daughter of Lester and Claudia (Corson) Giles. She was the youngest of 13 children. Her mother passed away when she was 4 years old and she was raised by her sister and husband, Velma and Ralph Weatherwax.

On July 29, 1947 she was united in marriage to Wilfred &8220;Bill&8221; Schaefer at Queen of Angels Catholic Church in Austin.

She enjoyed playing bingo at the Knights of Columbus. If there was a family card game, Isabel was sure to be a player. She was probably Austin’s No. 1 hockey fan with her own reserved seat at the city arena. Isabel’s greatest love was her husband, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband: Bill Schaefer, Austin; children: David (Connie) Schaefer, Austin, Roger (friend, Cindy Vaughn) Schaefer, Austin, Joseph (Penny) Schaefer, Albert Lea, Nancy (Brad) King, Austin, Lori (Ron) Jacobs, Mankato; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law: Shirley Giles, Albert Lea, Elthea Giles, South St. Paul; nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, step-mother: Lela (Harding) Giles, son: Bruce, six brothers and six sisters.

A funeral mass will be celebrated at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2006, at Queen of Angels Catholic Church with the Rev. Dale Tupper officiating. There will be a 4 p.m. CCW rosary and a 6:30 p.m. wake service on Tuesday at Mayer Funeral Home where friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. and also 11:30 to 12:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery.

The honorary casket bearers will be Brenda Post, Becky Rasmussen, Bobbie Jo King, and Beth Schaefer. The casket bearers will be Tim Schaefer, Terry Schaefer, Scott Schaefer, Troy Schaefer, Kris Ellsworth, Nate Ellsworth, Patrick King, Brandon Schaefer, and Bryan Schaefer.
