Oscar Bruns, 90, Ottumwa, Iowa

Oscar H. Bruns, age 90, of Ottumwa, Iowa, formerly of Eldon, Iowa, entered into new life on Nov. 6, 2006, at Hospice House in Ottumwa.

He was born on April 10, 1916, in Herington, Kan., to Herman and Marie Bentz Bruns. He married Viola Pacovsky on Oct. 17, 1947, in Albert Lea.

They began their married life in Eldon where he was a lineman for the Rock Island Railroad for 40 years, retiring in 1978. He was a army veteran of World War II where he served as a medic in the 35th Infantry division 137th reg. participating in the Normandy, North France, Rhineland, Ardennes and

central Europe campaigns.

He was a member of St. Paul&8217;s Lutheran Church in Ottumwa, Iowa, Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, New Hope Masonic lodge 480 of Eldon and a former member of the Eldon American Legion. He was a active member of his community and had a rich life with friends and activities.

He is survived by his wife, a son James (Carla) Bruns of Columbus Junction, Iowa, and a daughter Marsha Bruns of Burlington, Iowa, four grandchildren and a great-grandson, a sister Susanna Bruns of Oakley, Kan.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Adolf, Herman and Herbert Bruns and sisters Bertha Lueth and Verna Closterman.

Funeral services will be Thursday morning, 11 a.m. at the Kremer Funeral Home in Eldon.

Graveside services will be Friday afternoon, 1 p.m. at Greenwood Cemetery in Glenville, with military honors by the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars of Albert Lea.
