MCW downs USC, 58-33
In Sherburn, Martin County West defeated the United South Central boys&8217; basketball team Tuesday night 58-33.
USC trailed 31-16 at the half and never recovered, the Rebels were led by Jake Sonnek with 10 points and Eric Grunske who added six for USC.
The difference in the game was turnovers, USC had 19 to just seven for MCW, and offensive rebounds, MCW grabbed 12 boards at the offensive end to just four for the Rebels.
With the loss USC falls to 2-3 on the year and 0-1 in the Gopher Conference as they travel to Medford on Friday.
Maple River 67, NRHEG 40
In Mapleton, the New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva boys lost by 27 to No. 2 Maple River 67-40.
Maple River&8217;s big guns, Dan Dewitz who had 22 points and seven boards, and Elijah Blakesley who added 15 and 10 boards, dominated in the paint to help MR stay in the ranks of the unbeaten.
Brian Warnke led the Panthers with 11 points while Brad Kruckeberg added nine in a losing effort.
The Panthers hit the hardwood again Friday night when they play host to Randolph in New Richland.
LeRoy-Ostrander 55, G-E 44
Glenville-Emmons played improved both offensively and defensively against a strong LeRoy-Ostrander team, but it still wasn&8217;t enough for the win as the Wolverines fell 55-44 at home.
For the second straight game G-E had a lead at halftime, but turnovers proved to be the culprit in the second half.
&8220;We controlled the tempo offensively and played good defense but we still have a ways to go,&8221; Wolverine head coach Dan Fredrickson said.
Jarrad Knutson led the Wolverines with 31 points and nine rebounds.
Aaron Wuerflein had five points and did a stellar job of defense in the paint for the Wolverines against a bigger team.
The Wolverines are now 0-4 on the season as they prepare to take part in the Rebel Classic over the weekend.
