No. 8 Panthers go 3-0 at own duals

NEW RICHLAND &8212; The eighth-ranked New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva wrestling team beat Mankato West, Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton and Maple River in dual action in New Richland Friday
All three duals were close but NRHEG found a way to win in the end.
The Panthers downed West 37-33 as they held just a one-point lead heading into the final match at 285. However, Erik Olson earned a decision over Brandon Ross to give his team the 37-33 win.
The dual started well for NRHEG with Lucas Johnson and Lance Perkins each winning decisions at 103 and 112.
Sixth-ranked Brandon Schlaak received a forfeit at 119.
West would tie the dual at 12-12 with back-to-back pins and take the lead with three more wins.
Nash Petranek began NRHEG&8217;s comeback with a pin at 152 followed by a Gaven Schlaak decision, and pins by No. 3 Mitch Brekke at 189 and a pin for No. 2 Taylor Holland at 215.
Against J-W-P, NRHEG found itself in a 12-0 hole before Brandon Espe earned a 6-5 win at 125 to get the Panthers on the board.
J-W-P would win next four matches to lead 35-3 before NRHEG went on a roll.
Dan Wagner got a pin at 152 in 47 seconds for the Panthers followed by forfeits to Petranek, Corbin Pederson, Andy Jensen, Travis Wayne and Olson.
The Panthers also fell behind early to Maple River but bounced back with a 37-33 win.
Schlaak and Alex Moen earned pins to tie the dual at 12-12, but the late rally was started when No. 1 Krey Cory received a forfeit at 152.
Brekke got a decision at 171, David Lindell earned a major decision, Holland received a forfeit and Olsen was a 6-3 winner at heavyweight to seal the win.
