Panthers go 4-4 at Federated Duals

OWATONNA &8212; The New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva wrestling team split eight matches at the Federated Duals over the weekend.

The Panthers posted wins over Lakeville South

(51-24), Osseo (62-6), Waseca (40-22) and St. Paul Humbolt (48-4) while coming up short against No. 3 Wayzata (42-36), Rosemount (38-18), No. 8 Owatonna (31-29) and No. 7 Adrian (33-22.)

Against Lakeville South, Clay Krueger, Josh Dalbeck, Matt Bartsch, Krey Cory, Gaven Schlaak and Ethan Hagen all won by pin.

The Panthers recorded eight pins in their win over Osseo.

Waseca grabbed a 19-6 lead after five matches in its dual with NRHEG, but the Panthers won eight of the final nine matches to claim victory.

Colton Eustice and David Lindell recorded pins and Cory and Mitch Brekke had technical falls in their matches.

The St. Paul Humbolt matched had four double forfeits with the Panthers winning eight of the nine contested weights.

The Panthers nearly pulled off the upset of Owatonna leading 29-25 heading into the final match before Blake Grunhoffer pinned the Panthers&8217; Erik Olson in 1:05.

&8220;I felt our effort against Owatonna was by far our best of the year,&8221; NRHEG head coach Paul Cyr said. &8220;It is unfortunate we were unable to come away with the win.&8221;

The Panthers are now 10-7 overall and 2-1 in the Gopher Conference. NRHEG travels to Waterville Thursday for a dual.
