NEW RICHLAND &8212; Twenty turnovers ended up being too much to overcome for the New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva boys&8217; basketball team as it fell to
Waterville-Elysian-Morristown 62-61 in overtime Friday.
The Panthers found themselves down 10 points with five minutes to go in regulation but were able to battle back and actually took a three point lead with four seconds left.
WEM would tie the game with a desperation 3 that went in.
WEM hit a 3-pointer to begin overtime and the Panthers responded with a two-point bucket, but the difference remained throughout the extra session.
NRHEG shot 50 percent from the field and out rebounded its opponent despite the loss.
&8220;If you would have told me before the game that we would out rebound and outshoot them I would have thought we would win the game,&8221; NRHEG head coach Matt Eppen said. &8220;But the 20 turnovers
was a telling stat.&8221;
Brad Kruckeberg led the Panthers with 20 points, Dakota Tracy added 13 and both Brian Warnke and Justin Stieglbauer had nine apiece. Blake Kerkhoff added 11 rebounds for NRHEG.
WEM did hit seven 3s to stay close in a tight game.
The Panthers are now 8-7 on the season and 4-4 in the Gopher Conference.
