Helen Greenwood, 90, Mankato

The funeral service for Helen Mary Greenwood will be held at 10:30 a.m.
Monday at the Catholic Church of All Saints, New Richland. The Rev. Thien Nguyen will officiate.
Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be on Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m., with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Friedrich Funeral Home in New Richland and one hour before the service at the church.
Helen died on Friday, April 27, 2007 at Laurel&8217;s Edge, in Mankato.
She was 90 years old.
Helen was born in Waldorf on June 3, 1916, the daughter of Thomas and Rosella (Fox) Convey. She was a graduate of Waldorf High School and received her Teaching Certificate from Mankato Teacher&8217;s College in 1936. She taught in rural Waseca County Schools and fifth and sixth grade in Waldorf and Franklin.
Helen was united in marriage with Isaac Greenwood on December 28, 1943. She started teaching half time in the New Richland school in 1963. She returned to college and received her bachelor of science degree in elementary and special education in July, 1968. She was named New Richland Teacher of the Year in 1980.
Helen was an active member of All Saints Catholic Church, where she was involved in WCCW, Eucharistic Minister to the Sick, Lector Member of Catholic Daughters, and Court Sacred Heart. She was also a member of Waseca Area Retired Educators, SEREAM, REAM, and the Minnesota Farmers Union. She was very involved in all the activities at Laurel&8217;s Edge.
Helen is survived by three sons: Tom (Gail) Greenwood of Pittsburg, Kan., Rick (Jane) Greenwood of Apple Valley, Mark (Beth) Greenwood of Mankato; eight grandchildren: Matt, Brett, and Scott Greenwood, Jill (Kirk) Gangwer, Kristin, Jordan, Megan, and Daniel Greenwood; four great grandchildren: Ryan, Matthew, Elizabeth, and Gwyneth; one sister, Ruth (Thomas) Chicos of New Richland; nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Isaac in 1983; one brother, Maurice Convey; one sister, Blanche Cahill.
