AUSTIN &8212; For the second consecutive season the Alden-Conger baseball team captured the Lyle/Pacelli Tournament Saturday.
The Knights began the day by putting up 10 runs on the host school and winning 10-0 in six innings. A-C followed that up with a 5-4 victory over Spring Grove in the championship game.
Matt Bremseth pitched a complete game in the championship tilt striking out 12 and giving up just three hits.
&8220;Matt had good control and was able to use his fastball,&8221; A-C head coach Faron Bremseth said.
The Knight trailed 4-3 heading into the top of the seventh, but the Knights were able to put a pair of runs on the board to take the lead and hold on for the win.
A-C pounded out 10 hits in the game, but no Knight had more than one RBI in the game.
&8220;It was a team effort and no matter who I put in there they did their part,&8221; coach Bremseth said.
The win was a little revenge for some of the Knights who lost to Spring Grove in the championship game 23-1 three years ago.
Anthony Wittmer went 2-for-4 with a triple and two RBIs in the Knights&8217; opening game win over Lyle/Pacelli. Bremseth added a hit and drove in three runs as the Knights grabbed control of the
game early and never looked back.
Ross Hemmingsen picked up the win for the Knights going 3 2/3 innings striking out seven and
giving up six hits.
The wins improved the Knights to 2-3 on the season as the team continues to return players to full strength after starting the season with several injury questions.
