One of our favorite events of the year takes place Friday. We like it because it raises money to help fight cancer and to help cancer patients. We urge you to participate in the American Cancer Society Relay for Life.

It takes place at 6 p.m. Friday at the Freeborn County Fairgrounds and ends at 6 a.m. Saturday. Many people there are part of teams with members who take turns walking the track, but if you aren&8217;t, you can still go. There will be plenty of fun to be had.

Here is how the American Cancer Society explains Relay for Life, an event that happens in communities across America during the summer months:

&8220;By participating in an American Cancer Society Relay For Life event near you, you honor cancer survivors, pay tribute to the lives lost to the disease, and raise money to help fight it &8212; all right in your community.

&8220;Much more than a walk around a track, Relay is a time to celebrate those who have battled cancer, remember those lost and get inspired to fight back. Those who have shared the same experience find common ground, hope and healing at Relay. By participating, you have the power to continue the American Cancer Society&8217;s progress toward a future where cancer doesn&8217;t take the lives of our friends and family.&8221;
