For the first time the Albert Lea Hockey Association is offering free hockey to 7- and 8-year-olds.

Mites can register Sept. 6 from 6 to 8 p.m., Sept. 8 from 9 to 11 a.m. and Sept. 10 from 6 to 8 p.m.

at City Arena. In-house players can register until Nov. 3. There is a $50 rental fee.

The goal of offering free hockey to anyone in Freeborn County is to increase hockey participation. Last year, there were 45 kids that

registered, but there will be as many coaches and as much ice time as needed.

Mites will get about two hours of ice time a week with one hour during the week and one during the weekend.
