EMMONS &8212; Taking advantage of the nice weather, young and old alike lined the streets Friday evening to take part in the annual Borderfest Parade.

With a visit from several different area American Legion posts, fire stations and businesses, people sat in their lawn chairs, on curbs or in their cars to soak up the sights &8212; and more importantly for the children &8212; get some candy.

As participants in the parade drove or walked by, they threw out handfuls of assorted candies to the eager children on the sidelines.

The children raced to grab the candy once it was released, and by the time the parade was over, they left with a big bag full of candy, just as if they had gone trick-or-treating on Halloween.

The parade was one of the first activities to take place during the weekend of Borderfest activities planned.

Grand marshal was Olive Godtland, formerly of Emmons. Godtland taught kindergarten in Emmons for 24 years.

Also during the Friday festivities were rummage sales, a softball tournament, the first day of the 20-year reunion and a street dance.
