ALDEN &8212; The Alden Legion men&8217;s softball team had a very successful season. It took first place in the Alden and Hayward tournaments, finished second in the Bricelyn tournament and capped off the season by winning the Minnesota Class C state softball tournament that was held in Austin, Aug. 18 and 19.
It was not a very nice weekend for softball as it rained all day Saturday and part of the day on Sunday. Southern Minnesota was represented very well in this state tournament with Alden Legion finishing first and Minnesota Building Contractors finishing second. Both Alden Legion and MBC play in the Albert Lea men&8217;s softball league.
Leading the Alden Legion in batting for the weekend were: Dan Crawford (.867 avg.), Wade Barslou (.600 avg.), Chad Miller (.600 avg.), Aaron Phillips (.588 avg. with three home runs) and Chris Sorensen (.529 avg. with one home run). Derrick Bauer added two home runs and Sam Hintz added one for Alden.
The team would like to thank its sponsor Alden Legion for all of its support this year.
The Alden Legion softball team is made up by the following players: Matt Schonrock, Winnebago; Derrick Bauer, Albert Lea; Chris Sorensen, Alden; Aaron Phillips, Albert Lea; Chad Miller, Freeborn; Sam Hintz, Alden; Dan Crawford, Alden; Kent Klocek, Alden; Josh Sorensen, Alden; Mark Stoneback, Alden; Wade Barslou, Blue Earth; Bob Hansen, Freeborn and Adam Schrader, Easton.
