Bulldogs cruise to win

BUFFALO CENTER, Iowa &8212; For the second straight week the Lake Mills football team jumped on an opponent early and never let up. The Bulldogs scored 35 first half points and breezed to a 42-8 win over North Iowa Friday night.
Lake Mills racked up 328 yards on the ground and 408 total yards of offense while holding North Iowa to just 88 yards in the game.
Steve Hengesteg got the scoring started for Lake Mills when he burst through the line and ran 54 yards for the touchdown. That was followed by a Brent Bjelland to Lars Christianson 12-yard pass to put the Bulldogs up 14 after one quarter.
Jake Brekken, who had 124 yards on just 12 carries, would rumble in from two yards out for the next score before Bjelland tossed the ball 50 yards to Hengesteg to put the Bulldogs up by 28.
Brekken would score his team&8217;s final two touchdowns on runs of 57 and 13 yards.
North Iowa&8217;s lone score came in the fourth quarter when Ross Kettwick ran to the end zone from 2 yards out.
Hengesteg finished the game with 94 yards rushing on six carries while Christianson had 56 yards on the ground. Bjelland had 72 yards through the air on 4 of 5 passing.
Lake Mills improved to 3-1 on the season and is a perfect 2-0 in district play with a trip to St. Ansgar on the schedule for Friday.
