Marie Gilbertson, 80, Albert Lea

Funeral services for Marie R. Gilbertson, 80, of Albert Lea, will be held on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church. The Rev. John Henriksen will officiate. Burial will be at Hillcrest Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the services at the church.
Marie died peacefully Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2007, at St. Marys Hospital.
Marie Rose Gilbertson was born on Dec. 19, 1926 in Dowes, Iowa, the daughter of Ernest and Lottie (Peck) Bowman. As a young girl the family moved to Albert Lea where she attended school. On Jan. 20, 1943, Marie was united in marriage to Kermit Gilbertson at the Salem Lutheran parsonage. Marie was a homemaker, wife and mother while her children were at home. She had worked for Ad-Art for a short time and then the Albert Lea School District. Marie enjoyed reading, the time that she spent with her many friends at the Donut Hut and volunteering at St. John’s Lutheran Home. The time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her most cherished times.
Marie was a member of Grace Lutheran Church where she was involved in many different functions of the church. She also was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the Wilson’s Retirees.
Marie is survived by her children, sons, Terry and wife Carolyn (Johnson) Gilbertson of Waseca, and Steven and wife Nancy (Houge) Gilbertson of Alexandria; daughters, Sue and husband Bill Barber, Albert Lea, Linda and husband Tom Nelsen of St. Peter and Lanae and husband Larry Thorstad of Albert Lea; grandchildren Christina Barber, Jennifer (Barber) and husband Greg Schimek, Dr. Sarah Barber, PharmD., Chad Gilbertson, Anne Gilbertson, Jane Gilbertson, Matthew Gilbertson, Stacy Gilbertson, Marcus Thorstad, Grant Nelsen, Michael Gilbertson, Emily Nelsen and Jeff Thorstad; great-grandchildren, Madison Melcher, Ryan Schimek, Arik Gilbertson and Jacob Schimek; sisters, Dorothy Kvenvold of
Albert Lea and Delores Haines of Wirt; and a number of sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law and many other relatives.
Marie was preceded in death by her parents; husband Kermit; daughter Sandra; brothers, Luverne Bowman and Emery Bowman; and sisters, Lila Jacobson and Doris Rietsma.
Marie was loved by many and will be sadly missed by her loving family.
