Leslie Franklin Schroader

Leslie Schroader, 80, of Alden, died Friday, Oct. 19, 2007 at the Albert Lea Medical Center in Albert Lea. Funeral services will be held Wednesday 11 a.m. at Peace United Church of Christ in Minnesota Lake. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5 to 7 p.m. at Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells and one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Pastor Susan Cline will officiate and burial will be in Oakland Cemetery in Forest City, Iowa.

Leslie Franklin Schroader was born May 16, 1927 the son of Franklin and Ula (Andersen) Schroader in Thompson, Iowa. Les graduated from Forest City High School and attended Wells Teachers Training and Mankato State Teachers College. On June 21, 1953, he was united in marriage to Beata Neubauer in Kiester. He taught elementary grades five and six along with high school art classes. After his retirement he taught art classes and English composition at North Iowa Area Community College. He taught school for 37 years. Les also loved flowers and had worked many years at Wedge Nursery in Albert Lea. Les enjoyed horticulture and was a certified master gardener, having judged arrangements at the fairs. Over the years, he arranged flowers for weddings and special occasions. He did demonstrations and presentations on flowers all over the United States. Leslie loved horses, and was a charter member of the saddle club in Kiester. Les enjoyed traveling, meeting new people and experiencing new things. He was active in the Peace Church in Minnesota Lake.

He is survived by his wife: Beata Schroader of Alden; five children: Denise Olsen of Albert Lea, Jacquie Gilham of Helena, Mont., Scott (Janice) Schroader of Albert Lea, Craig (Christine) Schroader of Mapleton, Ramona Anderson of Albert Lea; 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; one sister, Marian &8220;Dolly&8221; Bitker of Tuscan, Ariz.; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Preceding him in death were his parents and one sister Leona Nesheim.
