Funeral services for Elizabeth Ann Gustafson, 80, of Albert Lea will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at First Presbyterian Church, Albert Lea. The Rev. Dwight Netzer will officiate. Interment will be at the Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, at Bayview/ Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Betty died Monday, Nov. 5, 2007, at her home.
Elizabeth Ann Gustafson was born on Aug. 28, 1927, to Harry and Sylvia (Olson) Knudsen in Dickenson, N.D. She attended Anacostia High School in Washington D.C. and the University of North Dakota where she was Homecoming Queen and President of her sorority Delta Gamma (Alpha Theta). She also attended Mankato University and received an advanced degree. Betty married James W. Gustafson on June 11, 1949, in Grand Forks, N.D. The couple made their home in Albert Lea for the past 50 years. Betty taught Home Economics in the Glenville District 245 schools and retired from teaching in 1983. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Albert Lea, PEO Chapter BK, AAUW, Albert Lea Senior Citizens and the Albert Lea Family Y, where she enjoyed swimnastics.
Survivors include her husband James; children, Jay Steven Gustafson of Minneapolis, Susan Gayle Price of Chicago, Karen Margaret Kramer of Stillwater and Nancy Lynn Doherty of Waconia; grandchildren, Danny Price, Morgan and Maxwell Lent, Matthew Gustafson, and Katelynn and Jacob Doherty; brother, Dean Richard (Shell) Knudsen; nephews, Danny Knudsen, Steve (wife) Knudsen, James (Lisa) Knudsen.
Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Sylvia (Olson) Knudsen and grandparents, Anton and Margaret Knudsen and Charles and Susan Olson.
Memorials are preferred to the Crossroads Community Hospice.
