Man awarded $12.8 million

A Worth County jury awarded Randy Severson of Northwood, Iowa, $12.8 million in damages for injuries he received in a 2002 automobile accident.
According to a news release, in 2002 Josh Johnson of Mason City, Iowa, Cory Tesch of Mason City, Iowa, and Matthew Stromley of St. Ansgar, Iowa, had destroyed warning signs on Warbler Avenue just north of Grafton, Iowa.
Severson, unaware of the construction project, drove his vehicle into the construction ditch and suffered life-threatening injuries. He spent 100 days at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester &8212; 84 of those days in intensive care, the release stated.
The jury deliberated about two hours and 20 minutes before delivering its verdict.
